Day 13

Rain, rain, rain and some more rain today. Been a while since I've seen it rain this heavy. I heard it storming last night and early this morning, then I drove to work in the rain. Don't know if my hair ever really dried off today :-) Thank goodness I grabbed my jacket this morning haha because it continued to rain. I couldn't believe how many people were still walking around the zoo, although at times, the zoo staff made everyone go inside. The rain just piled up on the sidewalks and almost some little running rivers. By mid-afternoon it was clearing up, and it actually looked like a pretty nice day that I never pictured happening today, but it's starting back up again now as I write this at about 8:20pm.

It just so happens, they were also working on the elevator in the Discovery Center today, which is where we've been working most of the time, and they tripped the fire alarm off a couple of times. Thought of left random fire alarms back in my dorm room at college haha but I guess not. Fire alarm during rain, go figure. Made for an interesting day.

My one boss Kira gave me some comments on the lesson plans I came up with for our World Travelers themed camp, which was SUPER fun for me to plan. Here's the comment she wrote on the front:
"The cultural & language activities you came up with are really great! This will be a really fun week for the kids!"
Yay! This made my day.

We spent a lot of time getting pieces cut for our various craft projects this first week of camp. We also planned out a layout for a main classroom with our boss Daniela. Camp is almost here, but we can't really set up our classroom until Sunday afternoon or early Monday morning. There's a lot going on at the zoo this weekend. One of their Adventure Days, a few birthday parties, and its Wells Fargo day, so Wells Fargo employees and their families will be out and about in the zoo.

Tonight, 6 of the 8 of us Summer Safari Interns had the plan to go out for dinner together. The others had prior plans, but this was the best night for most of this week. We decided yesterday that we would go to the Drake Diner, by Drake University. It's a 50s Diner, and we had a great time. Stephen, Averee, McKenzie, Mo, Lauren, and I all trekked up there, ate some good food, and had a great time. 50s Diners are always fun.

Here's the outside of the diner.

Here's the nifty napkin holders and the glass bottle of Heinz 57.

My napkin with the Drake Diner logo.

There were so many things to choose from on the menu, but I decided on a classic cheeseburger and fries.

We've already decided we will be doing more of these intern outings. After seeing the preview for the new movie "Zookeeper", we all decided we should go see that together sometime this summer as well.
Here's a link to the preview in case you're curious and haven't seen it yet:

Then I made it back to Ankeny, went on a little jog since it wasn't raining for the time being, and then played some Just Dance Kids with Hannah and Rylee on the Wii, which was fun! I've played Just Dance 2 before with my cousin Becca, and there was some great music from my days, and we had some fun. I bet I looked kinda funny haha, but it was fun so who cares.... :-)

Then, I chatted with another friend from college via webcam for a while tonight. Here's a photo of Shalimar and I from our most recent semester:
