Day 14

Today was kinda a crazy day. Last official day of prepping for the first week of camp. We finished our name tag and parent letters for this first week and stocked the supply drawers that we will be keeping in our room. Daniela brought us pizza for lunch. Then, she ran us through before and after care, which I will be covering some of the weeks throughout the summer and our basic check-in protocol. We have 24 5-6 year olds signed up for this first week of camp. 13 of them will be staying all day, and the other 11 will be checking out at 1:00. I think we've got some good stuff planned, and this first week will be a learning experience, surely.

Lauren and I then went on a last minute shopping trip for supplies this afternoon. We found some world maps at the Learning Post, some craft sand at Hobby Lobby, and some dinosaurs at Dollar General for the 3rd-4th grade snowglobe craft. It was fun to chat with Lauren a bit and learn about the thing she is involved with during the school year at Drake. It was also nice to change scenery for a little bit today.

Averee and I then went to the Des Moine Public Library downtown after work today to find some books about dinosaurs. We're going to have a little reading area in our classroom for some free time and some designated story times, where the plan is for me to read stories to the kids. I've got the pile sitting on my floor now, and I plan on reading through some different stories this weekend. Averee took home a pile that are more informational, that we might use as references when conduction lessons throughout the week.

9 weeks of camp are about to start, and I am sooo ready! I have a feeling the days are going to just fly by. I'm actually watching a classic movie I remember watching when I was a kid.... "The Land Before Time". I am watching it in anticipation for week #1 of camp with my 5-6 year olds - "Prehistoric Pals".
