Day 29

On Friday, we started out by going around the room saying what our favorite part of the zoo was. A lot of the kids were looking forward to seeing the dinosaurs. We reviewed all the different things we learned throughout the week, and then talked about some of the different ways that animals moved, and we sang "If you're a dinosaur and you know it..."; so, we showed our teeth, waved our claws, flapped our wings, wagged our tails, and stomped around. Then, we fed the goats in Kids' Kingdom this morning before snack.

The animal presenter first showed us the ornate box turtle today. I worked with a research project at the Olsen Nature Preserve near Petersburg, NE while in high school dealing with ornate box turtles, so today's presentation brought back some memories of that experience working with my fellow Newman Grove peers and some from Boone Central High School.

Tye also had Amboro along with him today. Amboro is a blue and gold macaw. Amboro does a few tricks including saying "hello", waving, being an eagle (spreading his wings), and being a pirate (saying "arrrrr"), which the kids really enjoyed. They asked how he is able to talk, and these macaws like to mimic sounds that they hear. When Amboro hears a sound he likes, he'll sit there and practice it, and that's what happened with "hello" and "arrrrr". He mimicked the trainers.

Next, we went to the dinosaur exhibit, which is always popular among the campers. The dinosaurs aren't one of my favorite things to see at the zoo, but the kids love it. We also spent a little time out by the maze, which the kids always love, too. The poor maze has taken a beating, though, and is falling apart. The dinosaur exhibit is at the Blank Park Zoo til September, I believe.

We worked on our activity books before lunch. Then, after lunch we finally got to ride the train. Brylee was my seat buddy.

So, there are these speakers hanging from the roof of the train, and every week someone asks if the speakers work... well, they hadn't made any noise before when I had ridden it. Then, today they were on, right after I told someone I didn't think they worked. haha "Miss Jessica, you were wrong." hahahaha Anyways, this made the train ride a bit more interesting because a voice (well, not just any voice... it was actually my boss Daniela that we heard because she is the head of the education department) told us a few things about the different animals we passed. Another Australian voice welcomed us onto the train and fared us good-well at the end. We let the kids play a bit on the playground then with the time we had left before heading in for most of them to be picked up.

In the afternoon, we spent some time playing games indoors, went back to the dinosaurs one more time, and had our snack. We also hung out by the snow monkeys for a while, and there was a sprinkler running in their exhibit today. The kids wanted to stand and get wet, and they got soaked. Devai also agreed to do a silly face picture with me.

I cut out a few things while the kids were hanging out, and Kennedy came up to me saying, "Miss Jessica, you're such a good cutter," and "you are really good at that". Why thank you Kennedy. Hahaha

She also asked if she could take some pictures with my camera, so I showed her how, and she started taking some pictures. I had fun looking through the ones she took.

"Miss Jessica, smile."

Some of the kids were asking if we'd go back through the jungle, and I enjoy this part of the zoo. So, we went on one more safari, and the kids were really energetic and excited. The others asked if they could take some pictures, as well, so I said I'd show them how and let them take some on our last adventure through the Discovery Center. We had a great time on this last afternoon of Animobility week.
