Pretty fabulous day today. It flew by faster than usual. We learned about the Great Barrier Reef today. One cool thing is that it is so large that it can be seen from outer space as a line in the picture. The Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef in the world. It was raining this morning, so we stayed inside until lunch working on a craft, playing games, and singing some songs. The animal presenter brought a tree frog and a ferret for the kids to see, today. One thing I learned about the ferret today is that they are related to the skunk, and actually do have a stink to them if you get up close, or so the kids tell me.
We also went through the Discovery Center this morning and did our little groups thing to keep track of everyone. Here's my group for the day: Liam (you can only see his arm. He wouldn't stand still. haha), Marlee, Keely, Hailey, Ashton, and Chance.
I remember Chance kept asking me about the big fish - the Pacu. They look like big piranhas, but they're not related.
We fed the koi fish after lunch and visited the tortoises, lemurs, and otters.
This afternoon was the best afternoon this week. They were listening really well, we were having a great time, and the day was over before we knew it. When I said time to line up, they were like "Where are we going next?" I said, "It's actually time to go home for the day."
Reed had brought along this foam visor today, and at one point he wore it upside down. I told him he looked like a baby and took a picture, and he laughed :-)
Since they were being so good today, we let them go to the playground for a while (even before snack today).
One cool thing about this week's group is that they are all really great about listening to stories. I may have already mentioned this, but it really is something that stands out when I think of this week's group of campers.
I feel like there are so many other things that were said today that I could be writing about for today, but I just remember being really happy all afternoon and thinking that it has been a fabulous afternoon. This still isn't feeling like a job to me because I am enjoying it. I like getting up in the morning to head to the zoo to be with the kids. One of my good friends asked me yesterday how the zoo has been treating me, and my response was, "Really well! I don't have to deal with animal crap, but I get to be at the zoo all day with kids." :-)
