Day 37

Learned about the rainforest today. We discussed what a rainforest is like, what animals live there, a and a little about the Amazon. I then told them about my trip to the Amazon Rainforest when I was in Ecuador and shared some photos from my scrapbook, which I think they enjoyed. Okay two things  I remember kids saying during lesson this morning that just made me smile and chuckle a bit. Nate (Matt's twin brother) raised his hand, I called on him, then he said "I love you." Thanks, Nate. haha Next, as I was walking around with my Ecuador book and pointing out some photos of the tarantulas, spiders, and the scorpion spider that I saw. As you can see here, I held the scorpion spider. Dr. Heyborne actually had it sit on his face that night, as well. Anyways, when Samantha saw this photo, she said to me "Miss Jessica, you look so beautiful in that picture." hahaha Kids say the darndest things.

We also practiced a few words in Spanish today including:
  • la selva tropical - the tropical rainforest
  • Como estas? - How are you?
  • Estoy bien. - I am good.
This morning we split into two groups. First, my group worked on today's craft project. A little photo frame. Here's the example I did up with an extra photo I had from last week.

Then, my group went and fed the parakeets.

The animal presenter brought the blue-tongue skink and the gopher tortoise today. After snack, we visited the dinosaur exhibit. After lunch, we worked on our activity books and passport for the day. Here's my page for today:

With our full day campers today, we played some games, read some stories, and then went out to the playground. I had a few books I had picked up from the classroom on our way there, and Nate came by me and asked me to read one. Outside story time! Samantha joined us, and there even where a few kids just at the zoo with their parents that sat behind me for a bit. haha

So, some days our popsicles that we have in the afternoon have jokes on the sticks. For a while, I felt like I had seen every joke they have, but then I read this one and chuckled just a tad. haha
Here's what it said:
What did the square say to the old circle?  ---Been around long
Sorry, little things amuse me sometimes. :-) Also, while we were out at the playground I saw a kid walking by with one of our shirts on, and I looked closer and realized it was Miller, who we had during Animobility week. I walked up to him, and say "Hey, Miller!" and waved. His mom and dad recognized me, and his mom said I had a good memory. His dad said Miller's been teaching them all about the things he learned that week. Then, Miller said, "Look, here's my serval jump", and he jumped just like I had taught him during one of our animal exercise sessions :-) Yay! I told it was nice seeing them again. Here's the photo I took when he was with us a few weeks ago to remember him saying, "Ah, I love the macaws. They're so beautiful." :-)
